Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh town was supported on twenty seven Jan 1995 by government decree 16/CP on the premise of the merger of 9 universities (members): (University of Ho Chi Minh town, Thu Duc Technology coaching University, Ho Chi Minh university of Technology, Ho Chi Minh university of Agriculture and Sylviculture, University of political economy, University of Accounting and Finance, Ho Chi Minh town pedagogic University, Ho Chi Minh town design University, branch of Law University of Hanoi into eight members and formally declared on vi Gregorian calendar month 1996.

On twelve Gregorian calendar month 2001, Vietnamese Prime Minister Phan Văn Khải signed a choice no. 15/2001/QĐ-TTg on reorganization of this university. in step with the choice, Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh town, constant applied for Vietnam National University, Hanoi, shall have specific internal organization and activity (unlike the one applicable for different Vietnamese universities), are going to be given priority to involve in education of postgraduate and science analysis of spheres of technologies, to be a pioneer in education and science, to contribute considerably to the country's economic and scientific development.
